ARE YOU DEALING WITH HAIR LOSS?

There are several different causes for hair loss and depending on the type of hair loss you’re experiencing will determine the type of treatment and unit you may need.  Some causes of hair loss can be from medication, hereditary (female pattern baldness), poor nutrition, Hormonal changes, and hairstyles that cause too much tension just to name a few.  If you notice any signs of hair loss be sure to visit a dermatologist to help with diagnosis and treatment options.
  • Medication- some of the current medication that you may be taking can also cause you to lose hair or for hair to become thinner.  Some of the medication that may cause hair loss are drugs that treat cancer, a blood thinner (heparin & warfarin), Cholesterol medication, thyroid medication, steroids and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) just to name a few.
  • Hereditary -Female pattern baldness is a hereditary condition that’s not only found in men but also women.  This term is also known as androgenetic alopecia, is commonly found in women over the age of 50 years and older but can happen at any time depends on the person.
  • Poor nutrition- it all starts with the body you are what you eat.  You need to eat a healthy diet that includes vegetables and fruits.  If you are lacking protein and vitamins, biotin deficiency, low iron, bulimia, anorexia, crash dieting can also cause hair loss.
  • Hormonal changes- can be from pregnancy postpartum hair loss, birth control, and menopause.  You can experience hair loss after having a baby and may have excessive shedding.  Birth control and menopause can cause your hormones to be unbalanced and can lead to hair loss.  Thyroid- is the gland that helps regulate the body’s hormonal levels if its functioning abnormal it can cause hair loss.
  • Tight hairstyles- wearing tight weaves, braids, and twist can cause tension on the hair follicle and can cause it to break.  If you have in a style that’s giving you a headache, feels too tight, causing red or white bumps on the scalp.  Remove it immediately you don’t want to cause any more damage to your hair follicles.
