HOW TO PREP HAIR BEFORE AND AFTER PROTECTIVE STYLING

How to prep hair for weave, braids or wigs protective style.  I don't recommend keep any weave style in longer than 8 weeks; and that you give your hair a 1-2 week break in between doing another protective style.

Before getting your protective style:
  • Shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo.
  • Deep condition your hair since you will be having it in a style for a couple weeks.
  • Carefully detangle hair.
  • If using heat apply a heat protectant to hair
  • You can blow dry hair or use a heatless stretching method (option depends on how your styles want you to be stretched) to stretch hair.
  • Stylein the protective style of choice
This is optional for people hair who’s not in a healthy hair state.  I do not recommend putting damaged hair into a extension or weave style, due to you it will need more TLC to get it back healthy.

Managing your hair in while in protective style:
  • Wear a satin scarf, bonnet at bedtime to help preserve your hair.
  • Shampoo your hair with the extension in every 2 weeks.  Your hair needs to be cleaned while having this style.
  • Hair is moisturized when you cleanse & condition it.
  • You can dilute shampoo & water in a applicator bottle, to put mixture onto scalp if you can't get to your scalp due to the style.  Gently massage scalp to remove build up, rinse hair, repeat with conditioner.
  • Make sure to fully dry hair especially if the style has any type of cornrows.
  • If you are wearing a wig style, you can take cornrows down and cleanse hair weekly or bi-weekly.

After the take down of your protective style:
  • Take out the protective style.
  • Using a wide-tooth comb fully detangle your hair so that when you wash your hair it doesn't mat up.
  • Shampoo hair with a clarifying shampoo followed up with a moisturizing shampoo.
  • Deep condition your hair since it's been away for weeks.
  • Carefully detangle hair.
  • Style hair in the next style of choice.
  • If you're doing another extension style give your hair a 2-week break before doing another style.
You may also be due for a Trim depending on the last time you had one done.
