How to prep hair for weave, braids or wigs protective style.  I don't recommend keep any weave style in longer than 8 weeks; and that you give your hair a 1-2 week break in between doing another protective style.

Before getting your protective style:
  • Shampoo with a Clarify shampoo followed up with a moisturizing shampoo.
  • Deep condition your hair since you will be having it in a style for a couple weeks you want it to be moisturized.
  • Use leave-in conditioner & carefully detangle hair.
  • You can blow dry hair or use a heatless stretching method (option is yours) to stretch hair.
  • Style in protective style of choice.
This is optional for people hair who’s not in a healthy hair state you may need a trim before getting a protective style or even a protein treatment.  So look at the health of your hair to determine if this is needed for you.

Managing your hair in while in protective style:
  • Wear a satin scarf, bonnet at bedtime to help keep your hair looking nice.
  •  Moisture your scalp a few times a week so that your natural hair don't become dry.  You can use an spray bottle with water & leave-in conditioner mix to spray on your scalp..
  •  You can wash your hairstyle; dilute shampoo & water in spray water bottle.  Spray the scalp mixture in between the cornrows on your hair.  Gently massage scalp to remove dirt & product buildup off scalp.  Rinse hair, then spray the leave-in conditioner mix on scalp.
  • Make sure if you shampoo hair that its fully dry especially if it’s a style with cornrows.  Wet hair & scalp can create a fungus on your scalp.
  • If you are wearing a wig style, you can take cornrows down and cleanse hair weekly and braid it back up.

After the take down of your protective style:
  • Take out protective style.
  • Using a wide-tooth comb fully detangle your hair so that when you wash it; it doesn’t matted up.
  • Shampoo with a Clarify shampoo followed up with a moisturizing shampoo.
  • Deep condition your hair since it’s been weeks since you have properly cleansed your hair.  (If your due for a protein treatment do one than deep condition after the protein treatment)
  • Use leave-in conditioner & carefully detangle hair.
  • You can blow dry hair or use a heatless stretching method (option is yours) to stretch hair.
  • Style hair in next style of choice. (If you’re thinking bout doing another protective style give your hair a 1-2 week break before doing another weave style)
You may also be due for a Trim depending on the last time you had one done.
