How to cleanse your custom wigs

HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR CUSTOM WIGS

With proper care and maintenance of your custom wigs, you can help them last for years.  How often you wash your wig depends on your lifestyle, someone who works out will have to cleanse wig more often.  Generally, a wig should be cleaned every two weeks but this can vary from the personal lifestyle. 
 
Products needed:
Styrofoam head or manikin head
Wig brush or paddle brush
Shampoo
Conditioner or Deep conditioner
Wide tooth comb
 
Wig care is similar to cleansing your natural hair:
  1. Detangling hair using a wig brush or paddle brush.  If the wig is curly finger comb hair or you can apply some conditioner & water into a spray bottle to help detangle the curly hair.
  2. Fill the sink with cold water; add a drop or two of shampoo to the water.
  3. Place wig in water with open of wig facing upwards.  Make sure the wig is fully submerged in the water.
  4. Let hair soak for about 5 mins.
  5. Rinse wig in cold water and make sure all the shampoo is rinsed out completely
  6. Apply deep conditioner to wig allow to soak on hair for 5 mins.
  7. Rinse wig in cold water and make sure it rinses out completely
  8. Place wig on towel and pat dry to remove the excess water from the wig.
  9. Place wig on Styrofoam head or manikin head.
  10. Begin to gently comb wig to detangle if needed.  If you like a part of your closure this is where you will part it so that it will set into place.
  11. Apply a small amount of leave in conditioner on wig, you can seal it with a small amount of oil (oil is optional)​
  12. Let wig air-dry once fully dried style as desired.

You made a good point when you talked about how wigs can last for years if you take proper care of them. When you are taking care of a wig, would it be a good idea to use products that are made out of organic ingredients? It seems like it would be a good idea to use gentle products on wigs so that they don't get ruined.
