Here are a couple of tips to help you on your natural hair journey.  As many of us who decide to go natural search the web for information on How and What to do next.  This also can help those of you who are already natural but been using excessive heat & have heat damage. I’m going to list some of the major things that can help you in this process.

  1. Stop relaxing your hair.
  2. Stop using direct heat on your hair like Flatirons and blow-drying your hair.
  3. Use products free of sulfate, mineral oils, drying alcohols, and silicones.
  4. Change the type of combs you use, you will need to switch to wide-tooth combs.  Denman brushes are also good to help with detangling hair.
  5. Protected hair while sleeping by using a satin scarf, bonnet or pillowcase.
  6. Add deep condition & protein treatments to your hair regimen to help keep your moisture/protein balance in your hair.
  7. Be aware of the ”Line of Demarcation” its the point where the relaxed hair & new growth meets.   It’s very fragile to when detangling be very gentle.
  8. Do heatless styles like roller sets. Curl formers, flexi rods, braid outs and twist outs. These styles will help you from keeping direct heat off your hair.
  9. Make a hair regimen, Cleanse, Condition, Moisturized, and Style.  Keep track of products that work and don’t work.
  10. Get regular trims.  You can gradually cut off the relaxed hair; recommended trims every 6-12 weeks depending on when your hair needs it.
  11. Stop using cotton towel; use a microfiber towel when drying natural hair.
  12. Use products that are moisturizing.
  13. Learning your porosity will help within understanding what your hair needs.
